How would Buddha answer questions today using what we have learned about our universe. First: If you have a burning question or would like to add something to an answer, send it to buddha@buddhatoday.com

Question 1

4/24/2011  - How can we all be "ONE" when I feel so separate from everyone and everything?

Buddha today might say- If you were to experience being truly separate, not connected as "One", you would realize the beauty of our connection. Through our connection to each other and the planet we are all able to experience life in the same way. Without our connection to each other what we see, feel, taste, hear and smell would be different for each person.

As seen in experiments in quantum mechanics, when an object is observed it changes. The act of observation changes the way particles behaves. The question is why. Without observation, particles which make up our world, are not governed by the laws of our connected conscious awareness and behave under an alternative universal law. Our observation requires particles to act in accordance with the laws of our connected consciousness. It takes a very powerful collective conscious to make this happen.

Example, if a basketball is bouncing on a court, quantum mechanics tells us there is an infinite number of places the ball could be bouncing. The question is why do we all see it bouncing in the same place. It is due to the laws of our connected collective consciousness which displays the ball in the same location for each of us. Life would not have evolved without this connection. How would you be able to drive a car if the location of oncoming traffic varied from person to person. There are examples of people who begin to lose their connection. They will see and experience things differently from the masses and typically we call them delusional, schizophrenic, having hallucinations, etc.. Without being connected as "One" we would all be living in our own small and very different world.

Our connected conscious is maintained and strengthened through deep sleep . If you have been sleep deprived for a very long time you will get a taste of being disconnected. This will be discussed under the question, "Buddha, why do we sleep?".
